Biography
Mervyn Warren, Grammy Award-winning composer-arranger and original Take 6 member, teamed with Quincy Jones to produce this landmark event - the Soulful Celebration of Handel's Messiah filled with Special Guest Artists, extraordinary interpretation unlike any other, before or since.
As a recording, it won the 1992 Grammy for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album and the 1992 Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year. This recording was praised for its use of multiple genres of African-American music including spirituals, blues, jazz, ragtime, big band, fusion, R&B, and hip-hop.
As a live show, while there were attempts to mount this spectacular production, only once has this occurred - with The National Symphony in their December 2017 Kennedy Center SOLD OUT performance!
This Soulful holiday-time experience is one of the most inspiring and exciting shows - different, unqiue, momentous - it brings to life the true meaning of holiday celebration!
The production takes its core from its Producer-arranger-composer, Grammy Winner Merv Warren, the program featured an all-star roster of guest artists including Jennifer Holliday, BeBe Winans, CeCe Winans, Take 6, Marvin Sapp, The Clark Sisters, Chanté Moore, Deitrick Haddon, Billy Porter, Kelly Price, Sheléa, Janice Chandler-Eteme, Nnenna Freelon, the Steven Ford Singers, and others.
