Los Angeles-based saxophonist and composer Mike Casey continues to make waves with his latest album, “Valencia.” Originally premiered at Spain’s prestigious Auditori Nacional in 2019, the album has garnered significant attention, landing on both Spotify and Pandora’s “Best Jazz of 2024” year-end lists. This marks Casey’s seventh appearance on major streaming platforms’ “Best Jazz” summaries, solidifying his place as a leading voice in his generation.
“Valencia” has received praise from BBC and NPR, and even caught the ear of basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who featured it in his Substack newsletter. The album also topped Bandcamp’s jazz fusion chart and was showcased by Victrola to its vast audience. Further expanding its reach, “Valencia” will be featured on Virgin Atlantic’s in-flight entertainment system throughout 2025, accompanied by a magazine interview with Casey.
A departure from his acclaimed trio work, “Valencia” showcases Casey with a 5-piece ensemble (tenor saxophone, piano, bass, guitar, and drums), with the option to add harp for an even richer sound. While he tours Europe in a trio format in March 2025, both ensembles are available for bookings in the 2025-2026 season.
